Default m6 to a4 conversion issues help

I had va speed do the swap for me and the car would not shift to first gear and would act like a trans brake in first. come to find out either the computer has not been programmed to command first gear or something in the computer is not allowing the yellow and light green to ground out. the car is a 02 z28. my question is can info be left out when flashing the computer (1st gear info) etc, or what else could cause this issue.

You have to do a write entire to make the change from M6 to A4. If you are still running an M6 tune then you only have 3rd gear and reverse.

Then its not a flash issue. Could be a bad shift solenoid. Was the trans just rebuilt or used?

no its not a shift solenoid. we grounded the yellow and green wire and first gear was there but only if we grounded it manually. it either has to be the flash or maybe whatever in the computer grounds those wires in broke. i cant see anything else being the problem. im not a tuner so i dont really know about that side of things.

Is the wire going to the right pin in the pcm? Try commanding the solenoid with a scanner and see if you get 1st.

First you need to make a determination if your looking at a trans or a pcm or wiring issue the latter wiring being most likley with a m6 to a4 conversion.
I would set this test up to see whats being comanded if your having to do this on your own ,
1- In the trans harness find the yellow wire with a black stripe and the lt green wire.
2-Get 2 12 volt leds from radio shack one gree and one red,
3Get about 15 feet of wire and some splice connectors the ones you dont have to cut the wire to use.
4-spice the negative side of the green one to the light green wire and the other side to the fuse box 12vusing a length of wire to get in the car with te leds
5-Do the same with the red one but on the yellow wire with the black stripe.
Drive car if the PCM is working right and the wiring is correct you should see.

1-both on
2-green off - red on
3-both off
4-green on and red off

If this happens then you have a issue with the trans if they dont happen like this when you drive then you have and issue with the PCM or harness and will be able to tell where you need to look.

I learned this from Frank at performabuilt.... very helpful little tool.

it is wired right. I checked it, va speed checked it, and the shop that te car was just at checked it. im starting to think its my pcm. i wish a knew someone locally with a 99+ auto fbody that i could swap out computers and see if that fixes the problem. can the computers even be swaped without problems?

Randomly swapping PCM's is not a good idea.
It control other things besides the trans like fueling, spark ect.
Simply swapping it for another one can give you other drive-ability problems.

Something may have been overlooked in the calibrations,
can you upload it here or compare it to a stock auto tune?

I like this idea. You can then see if you have first gear in it without any money from your pocket.

And it proves that the pcm is capable of controlling it. Then you would need to figure out why it isn't.

unfortunately i dont have the capability to upload anything nor do i have a scan tool. I only wanted to swap computers just to see if the trans would work normally and swap them back.

turns out the computer was bad, not the whole computer but the part that controls first gear anyway. Ed at va speed replaced the computer and flashed all my info onto it and it works just like it should now. Thanks for everyones input!!
