Default Bad MAF? Car running like crap

Think I have a bad MAF, but want opinions. Yesterday, (it was a rainy day) my car suddenly started running like crap.! (running rich, hesitating, shutters etc) eventually it ran ok. Now if I start it, it is fine for about 2 minutes then starts acting up again. Before I go drop 150-200 bux, any opinions?

That is actually called Speed Density, not safe mode. But yes, if it runs perfect with the MAF unplugged, you may have a bad MAF - but it could just be dirty. They make a MAF cleaner spray - look for it at the auto parts store. Also, look for anything caught in the wires - saw a guy had foam from the air lid gasket caught in a descreened MAF once causing issues...

MAF sensors don't always throw a code (mine never did)...but you can tell with a good scan tool if it's giving ridiculous readings.

Either way, try unplugging it, try cleaning it properly, and scan the car before you spend any money on throwing new sensors at it.

Thanks. For some reason I thought I recalled someone saying this didn't work on LS1's, so I hadn't tried it. I'll unplug it and see if it gets better. If it does I'll pull it and clean it first and see what happens.
Thanks again

I think I remember a story of someone stuffing a shop towel in one to "keep the mice out" and forgetting to remove it and then starting having MAF issues.
