V1 cable is slow "logging" V2 cable is at the serial ports full speed "you can log more then one item with out a delay or not much of one" I don’t think you can even buy V1 new anymore

The price difference is Professional vs. Standard

Professional Software with cable is $500
Standard Software with cable is $400

Difference in the two is Bi-Directional Controls… this is good to test a setting before you program it in to the PCM.
Some screen shots of bi-directional controls

I guess there are still V5 versions that some distributors still have in stock - if you do manage to get one, then it's a "cheap" way to get V6. Because you can upgrade from a $350 version of V5 to $499 version of V6 free.

Once all the V5 stock runs out then V6 wil be the only version you can buy.

As Dissonance said the V2 cable can log at 115,200 baud, the V1 cable is limited to 19,200 baud. However, when using EFILive's 10x24 scan mode that baud rate limitation makes no difference. So the V1 and V2 cables can both log up to 24 parameters at 10 frames per second.
Only when using Dynamic packet or single PID logging does the baud rate setting make a difference.

The significant difference between the cables is that the V2 cable supports bi-directional controls, the V1 cable does not.
Which, by the way, is also the difference between the Std and Pro versions.
