Default base tune help

Let me start off I've searched, I've read and am just a lil confused. so I'm asking for help.

Ok i'll admit i'm a little green on this, i have efi live V1 and will be using the 0411 pcm (02 2500 6.0 express van)

I'm building a lq9 block throwing a M1 procharger on it and have the LSr comp 293LCB HR16 ( http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1421&sb=0 ) 243/259 .624/.624 on 116lsa straight up with 317's and flat tops (what i had laying around) and 43/lb injectors

backed by a t56, but my harness is for an auto that i will modify when it gets installed.

I need help on base tune for this, something i can start the car on and break the motor in on the street, i am not planning on feeding the motor with the blower to break the engine in.

should i start with a 6.0 tune and modify it for a m6 or start with a 5.7 m6 tune and modify it for a 6.0???

I've heard of problems from guys swapping auto to m6's with the plugs running way hot (from timing) cause the car always thinks it's in neutral.

any advice will be appreciated.

i would probably start with a 6.0 tune since your also using 317's along with the lq9....plus the fact that the bore size is larger than the 5.7 and the ve table for the 6.0 is what your gonna need for a baseline. you could go on holdencrazy.com and download a tune if you find one with comparable mods to help get you started. right away youll probably have to up the desired airflow table to get it started and running. youll also want to go in to the open loop fueling table and change all the values to around 13.0

theres alot of tutorials to help you with learning to tune if you dont have much experiance. ill also try to answer any questions you have if i can. post up a copy of the tune you want to use.

thanks matt!

i can do some of the fueling part with a wideband, i did that to my fullsize with a cam, i just dont know enough to start messing with timing.

should i leave the timing stock from a 6.0 tune? just to get it started and running anyway?

I've read most of the tutorials and i'm still a little gunshy to mess with to horribly much, I've heard of people losing the motor cause they didnt know what they were doing.

i got some time still before the motor goes in for running/driving purposes. I'm just trying to get the desk work done since i seem to be in a week long rain session.

thanks for the direction so far...

Yep, start with the 6.0L tune - make sure you don't forget to change injector tables to reflect new injectors. If you post up your tune, I'm sure you can get some help with it here...

yeah leave the timing stock. thats the last thing you want to mess with.get the air/fueling done first. the only reason youll change any spark it right away is during the tuning for idle quality in the idle spark tables... basically you want it to idle decent first then move one to drivability, then wot a/f then spark

On second thought, it will be easier to start with an M6 tune... not a big deal though.

Questions:
- What are you using for a fuel system?
- How much boost are you planning on running?
- Are you planning on running a MAF or going speed density?

If it were mine, I would go with a custom operating system with a 2 bar MAP sensor and speed density...

Yeah if you want the M6 features (cage, reverse lockout) to work, you need to start with an M6 OS (tune) . Although those things really aren't that important but it would be easy enough to copy all of the airflow tables from the 6.0 over to the 5.7 file. If you use the Van OS you need to make sure that you switch the VSS trans/rev to 17 instead of 40.

i'm using an SX tech pump (think aeromotive a1000)
tweaked up ls7 injectors from injectorconnection
a boost/vacuum regulator that came with the supercharger

no more then 8lbs at first, plannin on breaking the motor in detached from the blower

i will run a maf when all said and done.

i dont care about reverse lockout or skipshift and all that crap.

i already went through all the trans stuff and changed it for auto.. i think i got it all can anyone verify this for me? i've heard the fullsize 5.3 guy that ls1/t56'd their trucks have problems with the truck thinking it is always in neutral and messing up the timing.

There are difference between the auto and manual tunes that you can't change in the calibration.

Can you full flash with your V1 cable (some can't)? Did you already license a tune to the cable? The best thing would be to use an 02 Fbody M6 tune for the baseline and full flash it into the PCM you have...

You wanna do one up based on an 02' Fbody with a manual? Post it up or PM it to me, and I'll look it over for you... I was gonna do it for you, but figure you'll learn more if you take a stab at it yourself

If you can find an M6 file with the same OS id as your 6.0L file then you can copy the transmission segment to your 6.0L file (and follow it with a full flash)...

The transmission segment contains other un-tunable stuff mentioned mentioned above.
