Default m6 to a4 problem

we had a 98 ta and a 98 z28 and we swapped the trans and wire harness. i copy and past the m6 tune in the z28 and it worked fine, now i am trying to flash the ta with the a4 tune but it takes off in 3rd gear and when you put it in first it takes off in 2nd. has anyone had this problem?

I've had the same problem with my swap. If u havent swaped out the PCMs from the A4 car into the former M6 car, u might wanna give it a try. Then re-flash motor tune into that PCM.

PCM's dont matter here its the tune. Are you getting any codes?

I went from a4 to m6 and back to a4. my prob when i went back to a4 is that the it was getting stuck in 3 gear. I checked my efi and shut down the code that it was giving me. It shifts perfect now.

Seems like u didnt have the problem he is having because u already have the A4 PCM. An A4 PCM will operate a M6 conversion fine with a few deleted A4 codes! He either has to swap the PCMs or get the M6 cars PCM fe-flashed at a dealer with an A4 vin'ed cars shift tune.

Your not understanding, I didnt mean use the m6 tune in an a4. I meant you can get the m6 reflashed to be used in a4. No pcm swap needed, just programing.

An M6 PCM and A4 PCM are the same. However, the PCM's need to be swapped or re-flashed by a dealer or equivilant since HP Tuners can only control about 20-30% of the PCM's functions. You can make a4 changes with an M6 PCM but the M6 PCM isnt sending 12 volts to the 4L60E transmission.

Ask me why I know this.

get a reflash, and yes it does work. you need a reflash to activate the other power sources.

Pfft HPTuners. Use EFI LIVE and this is never a problem. What needs to be done here is called a segment swap. Or just Full Flash the A4 tune in. Very easy with EFI LIVE but impossible with HPT unless you contact support and they actually get around to doing it for you I hear.

AGREED.

I used the seg swap when i did the 98 to 02 pcm and os. the fuel gauge wouldnt work, i needed to do a fuel segment swap from a chevy van. Worked like a charm.
