So when someone has a mechanical or nitrous problem...can you imagine if speedinc or nitrous outlet said...yeah I know whats wrong, you're not doing it right, you can bring it to our shop and we can fix it, when it would take them 2 minutes to type out what "they felt" needed to be changed. How big of dicks would those shops look like. Because I know damn well if I needed help on this problem and Frost knows how to fix it but basically said tuff titty...I would not being paying for his services any time soon.

Im guessing Frost paid for every bit of information he has ever gotten from ls1tech?

Im all for making money, but pcm secrecy is just plain dumb in 2010.

I have swapped my 98 for a 99+ PCM. I'm using the 12212156 OS. Keep in mind I used the stock 98 engine harness and just repinned it at the PCM. I imagine you should be okay though. If you are certain the fuel segment from the van is in the HPT file correctly, here are the values I have for my Fuel System. I use EFILive so I was able to do this myself with the help from the EFILive forums. I wish my tune file would work with HPTuners for you, but hopefully this data will help somewhat. My gauge works fine with these values:

Fuel System Parameters:

Very Very nice guys! Once I get this all into the PCM, I will make sure that we post up a htp and bin file so that both systems can use it. If anyone has TunerCats in the Cleveland area and wants to scan the pcm, we can do that too.

I think it makes more sence to acutally use my 98 harness and just repin it. Well if anyone needs a 99+ Auto engine harness I got one!

Well the wiring is all done, the new pcm is all setup and installed. Gas Gauge works perfectly. I will have a new bin file that I will post up that has the proper config in it. This swap was about as hard as a intake swap. It takes time to do dont get me wrong but I do think its well worth it. For those who say it doesnt it does, the car idels better, comes down off RPM much better, it reads all the data much faster. I still have work to do on the tune but Im very very happy with the result.
For those who helped I thank you very much. more info and pics to follow.

You need to do the fuel segment swap and tweak the table for the gauge
To remove the pins, you need to remove the colored plactic covers from the front of the connectors and lift the little retaining tab holding each of the pins in and pull them out of the back of the connector

It was simple as pie.
I have a GREAT guy that can send you a 2002 PCM with the proper OS with the Fuel Segment that will work with 99% of the 98 fuel systems. Here is the file that you will need if you have HPT or EFI. it will cost you 4 HP tuner credits to use, or 2 with EFI live. You will need to change the capacity from 16 to 15.50
To get the red and blue covers off just use a safety pin and push in the release guides pull off. then lift up the plastic retainers one by one.
BUT FIRST CLEARLY LABEL ALL OF YOUR WIRES! I used a P-Touch and it came in handy to clearly see all the lables.
This file WILL work for a large majority of the 98 to 2002 swaps, i know because this is what is in mine! and its working awsome!

I have a '98 Trans Am A4/3.23's that I want to convert to a '02 Trans Am A4/3.23's PCM/OS. The engine wiring harness on the '98 is burnt from the O2 sensors because the O2 extensions were installed backwards.
Can I just use a '99+up engine harness instead of a new '98 engine harness?
Will the interior harness have to be repined or swapped out if I use a '99+up harness?

Any help is appreciated.

bigboy, so this is 12212156 OS, A4 (60 or 80?), with fuel segment that is working on 98' cars with later PCM?

the 12212156 OS is a 2002 os, it can be either stick or auto. The normal auto is the 60, HP can swap the segment for you to enable it to control a 80.

2 Efi live vin credits or controller credits? V1 has credits for each controller, engine/tranny, v2 does one credit per vin number. I ask because your 98 PCM doesn't cost a credit to tune so I was slightly confused...

for efi live Unlimited tuning licenses for the LS1A 97-98 GEN III PCM is free with any FlashScan V2 purchase.
If you use the posted HP tuners file for a 0411 pcm, it will cost you 4 HP tuners credits. 2 to license the PCM you have then 2 more to flash in the file posted.

What we are doing here is taking the 98 pcm out of the car, re-pinning the 2 pcm connectors (red and Blue) to the 99+ fbody pcm pinout. THen taking a 2002 (0411) pcm and puting in a fuel segment fix so that the 98 fuel gauge will read properly with the newer pcm.

If you have a 2002 (0411) fbody pcm you can do a full read and send the file to HP tuners support and they can put the fuel fix in for you as well.

Do I have to sacrifice low oil level light when swapping 98' PCM to later one?

Ok, I have a 98 that ive been considering doing the swap to. The car will be a stroker, n20, full suspension drag car thats stripped down for weight and running a th400. What all would I gain from this swap? Is any 99-02 computer better than another?

Does it go directly to cluster, or to the PCM and then PCM sets on light on the cluster?
