Default sd tune on a 98 firebird

Is it possible to put an sd tune on a 98 firebird? A brief run down of my setup is a lsx block, large solid roller cam, super victor efi and a fast 4150 throttle body setup. i want to leave the 4150 open with no filter or maf. i was told by a reputable shop around the chicago area that it cant be done. i was told i would either have to convert to 99+ ecu or put and maf. any suggestions?

I'm just getting started so I'm no tuner but i will tell you that I have a 98 T/A and am driving my car on a SD tune and it runs fine. I dont know if it has something to do with your mods like the throttle body.

The tables are more restrictive in size, but it works the same way.

What he said ^ Which is why it would be a little better to go to a 99+ PCM... but it can be done on the 98. Is it strictly a track car? If it is, or even a limited street use car, I would just leave the 98 stuff in there and use it. Not like you need low octane tables on a car like that... My 2 cents...

i thought it was possible but i was told not. i went with their advice and changed the setup a lil. it now has a carb hat routed to an maf then to a lid. car is primarily track car but i do drive it on the street also.

Actually, depending on your power level, that should work alright... post up some results from the dyno or track!

I have a 98 as well. I just changed over to a 2002 pcm. I was having trouble with the 98 start up and WOT, now with the 2002 PCM all problem are gone. I would def sugest a pcm swap. It can be done with the 98 bit it will take more time to get it right.
