Default Starter tune for a cam install?

Got a quick question. I'm going to be doing a cam in my C5 this fall and I was wondering if it is worth sending the PCM for a "starter tune" to get the car running well and then drive it for a dyno or street tune.

OR - I am being too cautious? Ive seen cars with bigger cams, like a G5X3 run near half decent on a stock tune.

It won't hurt it to drive it easy on the stock tune (as long as you don't change the injectors), but it makes it easier to drive with a base tune in it...

Like BLK02 said, you can drive it around on the stock tune it won't hurt the motor.

However, that is a pretty big cam and you may be hating life driving it around on the stock tune.....practice your two-footing! Getting it tuned twice is expensive too though.

I'm going to go with a TSP 233/239 I think. I was just saying that I have seen G5X3's run on the stock tune.

Ah... I think it was pointed out to me earlier (by some jackass) that reading comprehension "owns" me.

A 233/239 cam is going to be in the same boat. That is a sizeable cam for a 346 and will require some driveability tuning.

If you have an automatic tranny you'll need a converter with that cam.

Depending on who you are getting it tuned by, some tuners will put a base tune in it and cover it under the cost of tuning... I have done that several times - have them bring me the PCM while the car is down getting the install and I'll flash a base tune in it... it's work I would do anyway, and makes life easier on them - and ensures by the time they come to dyno, they've had a chance to drive it and make sure they don't have any install related issues...
