Default Something Interesting for PCM Tuning

I was looking in on the PCM Resource Board, found it shut
"for maintenance" and being hosted at another place. One
which appears to be developing a combo logging and PCM
editing package that is year-locked and cable-locked, not
VIN-locked.

I still smell a little vapor in the air, 'cause the order page
says "soon". But it definitely looks like they have the right
idea. The site is http://www.hptuners.com and the old
PCM Resource Board forums are there. Wonder how long
they'll take to get for real... be interesting.

Cool, more options besides edit, looks like this year is going to be a good one for the ol LS1 crowd.

$500... I was hoping for some competition for Edit.. Looks like there's not gonna be a price war.. at least not yet..

Yeah it does look like a good year for LS1 tuners. I wrote TunerCat lastweek and they plan on releasing their OBDII/LS1 tuning kit next month

I just read the info on hptuner's web site about their software. I do like the fact that it's a editor and scan tool in one package, and that it's model/year locked not Vin# locked. But it sounds like they leave out some tuning features with the standard version. I would like a program that can access every file in the PCM. But $3000 for the full tuning version crazy. It would be interesting to see what tuning features they leave out in the standard version.

the advanced package, only allows reflashing the operating system, where the normal 499 version should allow all the editing that edit does, and then some.

I am looking forward to some info on this product, i know a few 98 guys local, and i might buy a 98 cable in the future.

There is going to be a few company's putting out tuning software for our cars.TunerCat,PRO-M,and Fast Chip's..I've worked with alot of these company's setup's for Fords and still find LS1Edit superior for ease of tuning.

^^ read the efilive forums. Competition is coming in full force.

Days of vin locked EDIT is coming to an end.

competition is healthy. Maybe a year from now ls1edit will not be vin locked

What is that a pic of??? I can see they are using a PLCC flash chip to store programs. Inside the EDIT module, they use a multi-processor that is a " jack of all trades" kind of chip. It stores data, it controls the communication from PC to PCM, etc... Is that just a module for EFILIVE? Looks very well built. The EDIT module is a cheap sloppy design. I'm a component level technician for a living and the EDIT module works but is sloppy.

the big chip i'd bet is an atmel like an 8515 or successor i'm guessing to handle the conversion of signal and other various stuff. I don't know much about programming the gm ecu.. ask the guy, he said he's been able to program various ls1's using that device that he's making. $200 for the hardware, wonder whose gonna make the software and how much

Fast Chip as in Ed W? He is coming out with his own tuning stuff for the end user to purchase? That's suprising if it is him.

That adaptor is from one of the PCM Forum guys, "Highlander", I don't know if he has locked in any 'commercial' deals for it yet.
He is on many forums, probably this one, perhaphs PM him to find out more.
