Default TCS OFF, no DTC codes?

Since i bought my car a few months ago, the TCS system and the TCS OFF light have been a real issue. When i first start the car i can turn the switch on and off no problem, but at soon as i give it a tiny bit of throttle, the light comes on and the switch no longer controls the light on the dash. I can very slowly ease into the thottle (and by very slowly i mean basically having to twitch my foot foward) but as soon as i start to push a bit harder, the light comes on and stays on.

I tried to find a code with my snap-on scanner, but neither the ABS nor the engine is giving me any DTCs. I was under the impression that if that light came on under any circumstance besides being turned off by the driver, it would store a DTC (at least thats what it says in the GM service manuals). Is it just something I have to take in to get looked at, or am I missing something here?

If it is rolling throttle I would suspect a wheel speed
sensor, but this ought to bother ABS too.

There are power-on checks but these I have not seen
throttle-dependent. Check that the harness to the
"gizmo" on the passenger's wheelhousing is connected,
and somebody didn't "defeat" it, just for yucks.

TCS is quite a contraption, it talks to PCM and BCM
making demands to cut torque and light indicators,
but leaves the business to others. So there are
probably many obscure ways for it to crap out. And
it's got its own worm-sized brain that scan tools don't
really know how to talk to, being as it was kind of a
5-model-year, one platform, optional deal.
