The only way you can get Tunercat anymore is to buy a Roadrunner or find somebody that is selling their unit. Stay away from the Jet setup as they are locked like the others. If you go the Roadrunner route you can usually find somebody that may want it. Since TC is not vin locked it is gold if you are looking to do a few cars. There were some on the Monodax site for sale every now and then but I am assuming the price has since gone up. I was lucky enough to buy a cable off a buddy that sold his car.

I just want it to tune 96-97 LT1's...I do like that TC gives you access to some parameters that the others don't have on the LSx platform, and I'm guessing they will probably continue to do so on the CAN stuff...but thats not really the end of the world for me, and I don't mind making a friend pay to license their car to HPTuners when I tune it for them...if they're a good friend, I say "pay for my costs" which includes software credits, and any fuel we need to put in the car, any sensors we find bad and change, and any dyno time...if it's someone I don't know at all then it's a different story, but I don't like to make money on friends...hell, if it's a really close friend, I just put their credit card number into the HPTuners website when I buy 2 credits prior to licensing their car and no cash changes hands between the 2 of us at all.

I also have a lot of local guys with OBD2 LT1 cars asking me to tune them...I guess I could buy the JET software and just continue to have them cover costs...but from what I've seen, it's not updated/supported NEARLY as well as TC...the demo of the software won't even run on my laptop without crashing every other time I open a new table...versus OBD1 TC software running perfectly fine, and I've tuned COUNTLESS OBD1 LT1's with it...hence my interest in his OBD2 package.

Can you still save as bin?

I have the VDF editor and have built a VDF or 2.

I guess I need to purchase a RR. Will I get the CAN cable with it?

Is this cable J2534

Apparently, the newer versions of the OBDII cables (such as Frost's) are CAN capable. The older ones, such as mine (I bought it when they first came out) are NOT CAN ready.

FWIW, John (TC) is hands down the best for customer service after the sale. He's added tables, parameters, switches, etc. virtually overnight almost every time I've asked him. I've had issues on and off with (hex)code errors, single digits out of place on different .bins, and he's always been there to help. Too bad for most people they can't buy the OBDII cable any longer.

Next thing is to get him to do a scanner!!

Westers Garage has ECMpro for a scanner works with the TC cable it's a little pricy but it's a good scanner histogram and I log my lc-1 serial into the scanner. Soon I'll upgrade to the enhanced and get more pids with access to airbag and abs modules
