Is there a way to ditch the factory style reluctor wheel, run an external crank trigger and then use the factory cam signal to fire all 8 coils using a bs3?

Looks like Shawn whipped up a nice bracket for this application.
I was unable to find a wheel, but I am sure John at BS3 could help you out.
I checked into this before and I believe that some of the guys running higher RPM combos switch to the front mounted crank wheel for improved accuracy.
I wouldn't think it would take very much effort to set up.

Another option from Kurt Urban.

The MSD flying magnet wheel will require the BS3 box to be reset to operate off a 4x signal.
