I've been getting conflicting answers, so I was hoping you guys could give me a definite answer. I have a '96 C1500 pickup, and I'm swapping the vortec 305 for a vortec 350. I know the 305 PCM might adapt to work with the 350, but I want it to be as if it came from the factory with a 350.

So should the PCM be reprogrammed with a 350 flash, or do both engines already use the exact same PCM flash from the factory? The mechanic at the Chevrolet dealer said they are identical, but I've read otherwise online. Can anyone give me a definite answer?

They are different cyl vol. .626 to .713
Ve differnt
Timing is differnt more advance on the 5.7
Maf is pretty close
Injectors same

Flashing a stock 5.7 tune would be a start

Edited. I reread and see it's a 99. Just need to flash it with a 350 cal.
