Default cold start question

I put a ls2 in my 86 montecarlo the cam I use is ground on a 110 I have cold start idle problems for almost to first min or so at start up but when the car is warm I have no problem at all starts instantly the tuner told me it was because of my cam but other people tell me that it can be fixed and straightened out by the tune

Your tuner was wrong. It's all in the tune.

Wish I could help you on that, but I am by no means a tuner. I just know that I had the same problem when I did my cam install and my tuner got it all squared away quick. I'm sure someone will chime in and tell you what to check on, but honestly if you tuner can't get it figured out, you may need to take it somewhere else. What are the specs of the cam?

Sounds to me like a possible problem with where your IAC is at physically. If it's nearly maxed out with a high step count at warm idle, it will struggle to provide the necessary airflow required during cold temp starts. Your tuner should have done a thorough cold start tuning session, measuring desired idle airflow, and adjusted your throttle body set screw so that the IAC was in a "normal" position at running temperatures. If they didn't do that, find someone who knows how and will...

I would agree.

Only other thing is IF it is another TB (not stock) like a BBK or something they have an issue with too small of a IAC port which can definitely cause cold start issue's.

The IAC (idle air controller) is present in cable operated throttle bodies. Electronic throttle bodies adjust the throttle blade in place of an IAC.

Either way, it sounds like a possible airflow issue. Without a log, I can't say for sure. But, that's what it sounds like to me.

Thats a sign to find a new tuner. I have never seen a car that needed the TB drilled to get it right.
