Default 98 Trans am with 2002 computer

I have a 98 trans am with 2002 computer. I rewired the 98 harness to work with the 2002 computer and everything works great except the fuel gauge is on full and never comes off it. I have HP tuners so I had bill at HP tuners do the 2002 chevy express van fuel segment swap on my 2002 PCM and then inverted the "gauge output" table like everyone recommended. Then I used "write entire" and still have not seen my fuel gauge come off of full. Keep in mind it stays on empty when the car is off then sweeps to full when the key is on and never moves off of full. Thanks for any help guys, Rob

Attached is my tune file.

I did the same swap from Frost. He told me my gauge may read backwards also but it was something in the fuel gauge segment and it could be fixed. He told me if it was reading backwards he would have to change it in the pcm. Sounds like thats what yours needs. Mine reads ok so I got lucky on the first time.

PM me your email address so I cna send you a fixed file to try. or I can post it back up here for you. There are a few 98's for some reason that are litttle bastards and like the table a little different. I know your pain im a 98 to a 2002 pcm as well.

Not 100% sure this will work since the segment used is different than the one that I use most frequently, but try this.

Make sure that you have the Dark Blue wire in the Red Connector on pin 38, that is the wire that controls the fuel gauge on the cluster.

i'm in the process of changing my 98 ta pcm to an 02 pcm. you said you had to
rewire for the 2002 pcm, what has to be rewired to make this work. also when you
get the fuel gauge working could you post what worked for you as i'm shure i will
have a problem with mine also. i have a 12200411 ecm from a 02 tahoe with a 5.3
and will use diablo predator for tuning after swap (predator wont work on 98 pcm's)

what you need to do is re pin the red and blue pcm connectors on the passenger side firewall.
Get a 2002 0411 fbody pcm, put in the segment fix.
install the new pcm done.

that is the short of the long. pm me if you have specific questions.

That's not MY tune file, it's yours; I just setup the gauge table the way it is in my functional 98>02 files. I don't know anything about the file or segment you used for the swap.

It is a 2002 chevy express van fuel segment swapped onto my file by bill at HP tuners. Here is the original van file. Is this not what people use?

If you are still having problems please contact me. I have the software that allows the editing of the parameters. I have fixed several of these for guys that have purchased mail order tunes off of this board. I have worked with Bill @ HPT also. He uses one of my custom segments, but that car had a custom fuel cell.

I haven't got a chance to look at the car yet since the car belongs to a friend of mine who I helped with the swap. First thing we do, I am going to check the wiring and the fuel sending unit then double check the segment swap is correct.

The fuel segments are built from the same template. That isn't the issue. The Van doesn't have the same Hz output to run the 98 F-body gauge.
