Default commanded afr at wot

i'm just gettin my efi live and my commanded afr when i really get into the throttle drops to 10 and 9.xx to 1 and of course the car is running really rich. it stays around 14.6 normal driving. is there a way i can change my commanded afr at wot or is this right

Assuming that its a gasoline engine and it is an observation made from a known to be working wideband I would say that is too rich. FI cars are going to at least be in the 11's.

Why are the values in your commanded AFR so rich? Who was the car tuned by beforehand? I am wondering if someone raped the command fuel table to avoid having to properly dial in the fueling.

Without seeing the tune it is hard to say if it's the tune that is off. But you should set the desired AFR and then tune the VE to achieve it.

F.A.T. - (1) fuel, (2) air, (3) timing. Best tuning comes of this process IMO, and is the most forgiving if mistakes are made in the tune. The best street (not drag - street) cars I've seen on the dyno run no richer than 12.7:1 at WOT. 13.0:1 is what I prefer to shoot for.

I actually just bought the car a few weeks ago so i dont really know who tuned it before or if it was some kinda mail order or what but ihavent played with all my efi live stuff yet i was waiting till i installed the wideband but i just noticed my commanded drops so low at wot. I havent looked for where to changed my commanded afr yet i wanted to know for sure what it needed to be set at first

So you don't have a wideband in yet? You need to get a stock tune for your year/model then do a compare file to your tune.

Then most likely copy it over to stock and start over fresh.

Nah i havent installed it yet i just got it in the other day and havent had a chance to weld it in yet

You can't just go by that! You need a more accurate way to read what's going on. Wideband O2 and a scanner that can do data capture is the best way to tune short of a dyno and a 5-gas analyzer, and I doubt anyone around here has that kind of high dollar equipment handy.

Right on. As long as you aren't tuning by the smoke you see in the rear view. Don't laugh... I've seen sillier things done with more expensive hardware! Keep us posted.

When you go WOT your PCM is running in open loop and thus shuts down the o2 sensors so don't be looking at those readings as an indicator of afr....

ahhh nice to know... well i'll have my wideband in with in the next day or so and go from there. what rpm does it start reading my maf

Get a serial cable for the wideband if you can. Makes is a lot easier to setup.

Once its working the 02 should show up on the scanmaster display depending on what version you have.

Then follow the Calc.VET tutorial on the EFILive forum to dial in your MAF, and VE, PE (WOT) table, etc.

I made a conversion table you can use for your commanded AFR/EQ/Lambda whatever based on different types of gas.
