Default Getting 13 degrees of knock retard

I'm getting 13 degrees of knock retard at part throttle around 2200 to 3000 rpm range. What could contribute to this. Car hesitates through driving range also.

I know one thing that made my tuning a nightmare was my ported MAF. After 2 years i went back to the stock one and now everything is great. If you still have the stock MAF, throw it on and give it a test drive and see if it solves the problem.

did you do anything to the car recently? did this just start? what year is it? 98's had real sensitive knock circuits.

My car is a 98. I just put on two 99+ knock sensors and harness. But is still as sensitive as before. What are my options. I heard to put teflon tape around the knock sensor threads. I didn't do that yet. Plus also I should torque them less than the stock 15ft-lbs to what I don't know. I just recently rebuilt my motor. I have an excessively noisey valvetrain. Its not lifter tick but on decel and part throttle its somewhat noisey. Could that contribute to the knock sensor system being to sensitive?

I think there was also a tuning correction for the '98s to help the knock sensor problem. You might check into this when you get ready to tune.

Using Edit, you can reduce the knock sensor sensitivity. Set the floor to 1.9 or 2.0.

you can't reduce knock sensor sensitivity with EDIT. you can reduce the effects that it has though such as reducing the amount of timing pulled and you can decrease the attack and the decay of the timing that it does pull, that's it. the sensitivity of the sensors (technically) is imbedded in a chip in the PCM and the 98's are bad about it. oh yea, and the sensors are the same.

sounds like your motor is just a bit noisy. you can do the teflon tape thing, that will help a bit. i pulled mine out and partially filled the hole with RTV then put them back in just hand tight. it did help. if you want to take it a step farther, you can install resistors inline in the harness. i believe you would need to start with 10k resistors but don't quote me on it.

First off make sure it is false knock. 13 degrees is a TON. Once that is determined Nine Ball sells a pre-made box (the Knock-out Box) that plugs in-line in you stock Knock Sensor harness. It works great.

Bzzzt, wrong. On the 98s you can adjust the sensitivity, and he has a 98.

Here is a pic of the screen straight from LS1 Edit: http://www.blownls1.com/knock.gif

Straight from Ken: "Knock noise Level - 98 only - should allow you to adjust the knock sensitivity."

In the knock noise level what setting should I set the sensors at. Or where should I start to adjusting this table.

From what I can gather, you should increase the number to decrease sensitivity. Stock is 1.7, and I have mine at 1.8, you could try 1.9 or 2.0 and see what happens. I might also recommend running 104+ octane while doing this to make SURE it's false knock.
