Default dyno

We know that the parameters for the car being set in automatic would not allow the car to downshift. We do know that the parameters were set that would allow the car to downshift in its manual mode. We know that the car was being run in the manual mode. We will be looking farther into your question tomorrow, from what I understand most turners usually don't have a alot of readings concerning transmission settings while most transmission guys have lots of readings about transmissions but not as many readings on the engine as engine tuners.

We haven't gone any farther than the front head (LS4s are put in sideways ). Engine and transmission should be out of the car soon.

Anybody have any information on what happens to an LSx engine when you spin it over 9000 rpm?

First off I hate to hear stories of stuff like this happening it just stinks for all persons directly involved.

A lot can happen at the piston velocities 9000 RPM creates. I would expect to find at least one or more stretched rods. What max RPM did the datalog show? I would not even dare reusing a connecting rod without having them thoroughly checked, and in no case reuse any rod bolts out of it. The pin bosses in the pistons could even be damaged by this RPM level if indeed it went that high especially with the throttle shut.

6600 in third equates to 10296 RPM in second at the same wheel speed with the converter locked in your application. While 6000 equates to 9360. I would think the engine would not have gone over 9K Even from the 6600 RPM level due to the time to apply the clutches and ramp the RPM 3k. Even locked a single disk converter probably would not hold that sudden force.

I hope this is resolved amicably.

Without a data log showing what happened with the engine and trans its going to be alot of speculation. It will be hard to tell if the transmission broke then motor got over rev'ed or what order parts actually started coming apart in.

If I'm not mistaken, 8192rpm is the maximum engine speed the stock ecm will read/log.

That means it went above 8192 rpm for almost 1 second.
