I would like to know what else has changed though...hasn't it been about a year since this book was announced?

Im purchasing it now.
I think its pretty pathetic the Tuning software places dont have any write-ups. I hope this book is good.
1. & 2. - 3 case studies the same (HP Tuners examples) and 3 new case studies featuring EFI Live software.
3. VVE is covered in case study #6 with a twin turbo LS7 in a Factory Five GTM car. This simply shows the practical application of VVE tuning and includes a little something you may encounter in the real world that can set you back. You'll understand this remark when you read the case study. Hopefully this case study (#6) will teach people to think ahead with the complete planning of their vehicle and engine build before they jump into tuning and think that every problem can be solved with a laptop.
And finally, yes, some basic 6L80 info is covered. Shift tables, shift speeds, line pressures and torque management/reduction, etc, but NOT INERTIA FACTOR tables. These are advanced topics (as is variable valve timing tuning) and should be left alone by the average tuner unless you truly understand the prinicples of these systems and their impact on powertrain function. We're currently putting together some training materials that we'll have available soon (don't even think about asking when; we won't reply to these questions!) and we'll announce when they become available as online webinars.
