Default Idle issue

I've got this same situation happening in two cars..trying to figure out the table that controls it. I'm using HP Tuners.

When you are cruising along and come to a stop the car acts like it wants to die..it low idles for a few seconds, then pops back up to the commanded idle. Then it's fine. I was thinking it's in the Throttle Follower Tables..any ideas?

Merv can you email me or post your tune in .bin format?

I've had this issue with several cars and the VE tables and resulting fuel trims need to be correct for that part of the map, then a few of the things that can be used to correct it are the throttle follower, throttle cracker, IAC and stall saver.

Getting the airflow dialed in for that part of the map, setting the IAC correctly, and having a properly sized bleed hole in the TB will make a huge difference in correcting the hanging idle. Putting some additional timing in that area can helpen soften the effects of the big cam and help it too.

I'm gettin closer..been playing with it..it's a decent sized cam in a 346 LS1. It's good in the mid range, idle it commands a 12.8-13.3 AFR, rest I have close to a 14.6-14.7. Haven't started into the wot at all..new engine.

Now I'm tryin to tune the AC portion when you turn it on, it bumps up to 2500 for a couple sec..then comes down to normal.

So far 3/16"...Cam is similar to a MS3.

I've been logging MAF air flow rate at idle and bumping up desired airflow at idle to get them closer to agreement and that has been very helpful controling idle dip coming off throttle.

I had some surging after a cam install and once I got my fueling and idle airflow straightened out it was gone.

Air/Fuel ratio has a big effect on the surge in my experience.

That's way too rich for idle. Return to idle is much more stable with a leaner idle. A large cam requires much less fuel at idle. Think lean not rich. Rich makes the idle seem smooth, but the return to idle, when you snap the blade shut, the motor doesn't like it. Try to shoot for 15:1 at idle.

Are you running open loop idle, or closed loop?

I know it's rich..I'm not telling it to do that..lol..

I drilled out the hole to a 1/4", went into the VE Table and leaned it out by what I think would be close..and it's on point now. Idle is 14.5-14.7, depending on engine temp.

MAF is disabled, STFT's are disabled, aswell as Closed Loop. Just setting it up with a decent VE Table before turning on all the other stuff..


The only thing holding me up now is when I turn on the AC it goes to 2k for a few sec..then comes back down.
