Default How does Torque Management work ...

... on an engine that has been swapped into a vehicle without a computer controlled transmission? Doesn't it heavily rely on TCM input as to gear changes, etc? Subsequently, what will it do if not disabled when bolted to, say, a TH400 or a TH350?

Or how does it work in a vehicle with a manual trans?

Not sure what pcm you are working with and there are a lot of different operating systems used. Cable and Drive by wire will also differ. With an electronic auto trans the pcm is setup to reduce timing before the shift to limit torque. There is a max torque per gear setting as well in most cases. Manual trans usually the tables are zeroed/maxed out to have no effect which is what you would want to do for a non electronic trans otherwise the pcm would limit the torque to what ever gear it thinks that it is in.

First, thank you for the reply. You get to I guess what is my base question though. That is, with no input whatsoever from the TCM, how does the ECM choose which gear it thinks it is in? The only info it could possibly base a decision off of is just how many time the rpm's spike and drop, but that could be attributed to the gas pedal which would then throw it way the hell off. This is an E38 ECM using DBW on an LS2.

Also is it better to zero out or max out the values in torque management tables to disable?

Not sure what the pcm would think. Scanning the data would be the only sure way to know. Put the max trq value in so that it doesn't limit anything.
