Default Looking for cheap/free scan software to monitor RPM so I can check tach signal

Just about finished with my LS1 swap into my thirdgen and I have the car running but I do not have a tach working at the moment. I have my stock one and a Autometer Sport Comp wired up and neither are working correctly. What I am looking for is a free or cheap program that allows me to monitor my RPM so I can get the correct resistor put in the switched 12v source to make sure my Autometer tach outputs the correct RPM. Is there a program that has a few trials that I could use?

basically any obdii reader, many multi-meters have an inductive pickup, or call a local dyno and offer them some beer to borrow their pickup for 10 minutes

If you have an Android phone or iPhone, you can download Torque free to monitor this. You'd need an ELM327 bluetooth dongle to make it all work, but they only cost about $20.
