Default Why does my car sound like popcorn at 5100rpms?

I can punch it and alls well until I hit over 5k then it makes that detonation sounds but the funny thing is that my A/F is between 12.4 and 13.2 at WOT. I have FLP Headers on it so I thought that would help but it still makes the crappy sounds. Any help will be great. oh and I have ls1edit coming this week so maybe that will help.

Maybe your timing is too high. I doubt it if the programming is stock '01 stuff but, it's a possibility. Also what octane gas do you run?

If you can hear that popcorn noise I'd stop punching it until you can get the detonation figured out.

My car was making the same noise a couple weeks ago. I replaced the plugs (NGK TR-55) and its gone now.

I run 93 octane and my car has 35k miles on it. I wish I could figure this out. I might change out the plugs and see if it helps

I have/had the same thing. Try running a top end cleaner through it as well. I have recently added a catch can inline with my PCV system and ran a bottle of seafoam. Mine seems to be gone now. You may have carbon buildup in the combustion chamber that is causing your problem...
