Have you replaced anything on the car recently before the issues popped up? Changed an alternator or anything? I understand that your car is running better now, but if the issue popped up, then "goes away" after you tuned around it, you're going to pop your motor if you just happen to be spraying when it "goes away." Just trying to help.
