Does E40 ECM works with a 2001 5.3 (24x) Motor ?
I bought my 2001 5.3V8 with 4L60E for an S10. The 5.3 has a cable operated throttle body. I also got my hands on the 411 computer and complete wire harness.
In order to install in 2004+ Colorado/Canyon, I have to change the cable throttlebody to electronic drive-by-wire throttle body. I have read that I need a Trailblazer SS 5.3 engine wireharness, E40 ECM & TCM. The ECM will need to be re-prommed to remove key security, EGR, etc...
1. Does the newer E40 ECM work with older 24x 5.3V8 Motor ?
2. Does it matter what ECM ( FWD / RWD ) I get as long as it is the newer style E40 (re-program Colorado ECM?) ?
Thanks

i needed to something like this as well. i contacted lingenfelter about their conversion box, the one they've got out now converts 58x to 24x. what you need, in my case as well, we need a box to convert from 24x to 58x. they told me they have a prototype box that does this but it won't be out til later this year. soo until that box comes out, i'm not sure we can do much.

Anyone?
I did a search on http://car-part.com and it says the 3.8V6 cars has same ECM as the 5.3 V8 ?

Wait, are you trying to do this swap on a S10 or a Colorado? 2 VERY different beasts.
The E40 ECM is a 24x/1x ECM, so it will work with ANY LSx with a 24x crank reluctor /1x cam reluctor.
You need to find an E40 and have it programmed either by a dealership or by a shop with a Tech II, Drewtech Mongoose, etc with Tis2Web to a TrailBlazer/Envoy OS. If you can find one that already has the correct OS, you dont need to do this. I have the ability to do this now, most tunes I do now will have the latest GM factory OS as the base calibration.
As for the LPE 24x->58x box, I saw it at SEMA 2011 and thought it was going to be ready early last year (just my assumptions, no info from LPE).

ScarabEpic22,
I bought the 5.3 with 411 computer for the S10 but would like to put it in Colorado. Colorado's BCM will not communicate with the older 411 computer I believe.
Thanks

What year Colorado? (it makes a difference.)
For 04-07, I think the E40 would be a good choice (no guarantees, but from a comm protocol standpoint it makes sense).
For 08+, Id use a factory 09+ 5.3L E67 ECM/OS so it's close to a factory setup. But, remember for the E67 you need a 58x/4x crank/cam reluctor setup on your engine.
If you have an 04-07 Coly, Id get a TBSS or 5.3L TB harness, E40/T42 ECMs with either an 05 5.3L OS or 06 5.3/6L OS. Now, you will need to check and see if your existing pedal assembly will work with the 05-06 TB OS, if it doesnt then you'll need to swap pedal assemblies for a stock TB 05-06 one. You will also need a TB/truck throttle body that is a correct pair with the ECM/pedal assembly. If all 3 of these aren't compatible with each other, you'll get either weird behavior or limp mode and no throttle.
Let me know if I can help more, I want to know what's involved in this swap for future reference!

I'm currently working on a 5.3L swap into an 04 colorado. i found an e40 computer today at the junk yard but its from a grand prix v6. can hptuners do a full write on this or does it have to be gm? also i found a t42 tcm from an 05 grand-am iirc. can this be changed over too?

2005 Colorado Swap
Ok, so you bought everything to go into a S10 and have decided to put it into a Colorado now? Got it.

Welcome to the Forum and glad you made your first post.
FYI, ScarabEpic22 has not posted in over a year and therefore unlikely to be reading this thread. You can learn this by clicking on the name/handle on any post and selecting "Find more posts by...". The result will be in chronological order with the newest on top.
Hopefully someone else knows if the 2005 ECM works with 24x engines. Or are you considering swapping the ECM to an E40 if needed?

Hate to revive twice, I'm looking for a swap in my 06 Silverado 2500HD 6.0 want to swap a e40 due to a tuner that I have is specifically for these and I have the older style. Is this a direct swap as far as just repining my harness? Say I grab one and put a corvette 6.0 or silverado 6.2 on it and have someone retune?
