Fan Temp Increases!
I have a 160 deg stat. The mailorder tune for the 160 deg stat was set over two years ago.
I have verified that the coolant temp, as seen by the ECM, agrees with the coolant temp seen by the mechanical gauge.
The engine seems to run alright, otherwise, although seeing the temp needle rising that high was unsettling.
I don't have a way to verify the fan "on" temp setting in the ECM, but it appears to be as I have reported.
What are the consequences, if any, of running it this way?...and comments appreciated.
I had an extra stat & waterpump, and had changed them both...no change.
The fans come on in the correct sequence (low temp, then high temp), but at the higher temps. I don't see how they would be defective.
Will swapping the two relays prove anything?
Also, I may have a couple of spares lying around.
The relay is just cutting them off/on so its probably not the relays. You could swap them but it wouldnt help IMO. Do you have any way to turn the fans off and on like a scan or tuning tool? Its alot easier to check them without the car running.
I understand what you're saying about fan speeds, but I'm still have to solve why the fans turn on at the higher temps.
I don't know the ins & outs of the relay operation, but do recall that there is a shared function/operation of the relays. In this respect, I think Ill swap the relays, and look for a change of fan operation.
Otherwise, I have a couple of spare relays to plug in.
Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm going to have to think about this one.....each fan is wired separately, to each relay. When the fans come on, now, one of them starts, then the other comes on a bit later. They seem to turn at the same (high?)speeds.
Nothing has changed since I installed the wiring, and I'd sure like to be able to examine the fan turn-on temp(s).
