How is the scan capability of HPTuners? I am interested but I'm new to scanning/tuning as well. I would just like to get my feet wet, scanning and learning first, then move on to deleting some codes that were generated after I installed my headers. I get very nervous when I don't know what exactly to expect ahead of time (low tolerance to ambiguity). Are there any quick writups on what to look for on an everyday basis (misfires, etc.) or how to delete codes? Thanks

Another Newbie here, I'm scared to death of trying to tune my car, but I know it needs it and I want to be able to do it myself.

Any advice? Anything I can read to teach me what controls what and what's gonna happen if I change a particular number, and how to fix it!!!

I would say always keep copies of your old tunes, so if you change something and mess it up, you can just reload your old .bin file instead of trying to change the tables back. As for what to tune, just read this forum, the forum at hptuners.com, and ls1tuning.com. Here's some terms to search for just to get you started. For part throttle: IFR tables. For WOT: PEvsRPM. I got my HP Tuners last night and I have the same complaints as Horist.

I used to have time to go drink a beer or eat dinner when reading the PCM but now I barely get the bottle cap off.

My daughter used to like counting the numbers when I was flashing the PCM but now she can't keep up.

Oh, and when will I ever get used to not swapping cables to go from flashing to scanning.

Lastly, I no longer have an excuse to tell my daughter not to touch my laptop while it's flashing. I mean, now she can play with it, screw up the flash and I can just recover it.

Damn you HP Tuners.

Hey Horist you mods list still says ls1 edit on it. Take that **** of and put on HPTUNERS!

what you can do (legally) is get a copy of ls1edit (edit) and copy all the #'s over to hptuners. There's a bunch of "tunes" on ls1edit.com, just gotta get a copy of the ls1edit. Then convert the VE table differences using excel since hptuners uses a different method.

try the hptuners.com board theres bound to be some mail order tuners around. best to learn it yourself but there are ALOT of things to tweak. Everyone has their own "method" of tuning it seems.
I email ed bothe carputing and hptuners on this subject, hptuners said it was ok to sare my copy, as long as it didn't get distributed widespread, carputing said no prob to share their prog, and thanks for asking (have both the emails if you want copyies) I found a guy who had ls1edit for my year care by posting "anyone have ls1edit to share" and gave him a copy of my hptuners in trade, and the email carputing sent. Really worked out as I you are right, there are tons more ls1edit files out there to check out....
