Question What have I got?? And.....

OK, I have a couple pics of my ecu. I need to know what I have and what to do to make it a stand alone. I am pretty good with wiring and electrical connections. So please do not solicit with "I CAN DO IT FOR $$$$"..

Everyone got a start from somewhere and I am only interested in being able to figure out mine for me and me alone.

Any help would be appreciated and if there are any reference materials for the wiring harness, please let me know.

Thanks a bunch. Oh yeah, the engine and harness and ecu came out of a 2001 Yukon with 5.3L 4X4. I am running a Turbo 400, so I can eliminate the trans stuff. I have no intentions to go with any other trans except either a 350 or glide.

I suggest you keep the auto trans wiring. You don't need it for a TH400 but in the future you may want to use a 4L80E or you may want to sell the harness. Keeping the auto controls won't harm you in any way and you may regret not doing so.

Send me a PM with your email, I can send you the diagrams.

0411 is the good one for 99-2002.

When I did my first one, I used alldatadiy.com for the pcm pinouts. That is really all you need to modify the stock harness, of course you will have to come up with ways to power things like injectors and pcm.

Will have to have vats turned off in the tune.

Well, this is gonna be primarily a weekend play toy and drag truck for me so the trans controls wont be utilized unless they build a super stout overdrive trans that is under $500. My 5.3 wont make enough HP to tear the T400 up anytime soon so I am going to go ahead and remove the wiring.

I don't want to spend $200 for someone else to do what I can do, nor do I want to spend $175-350 for someone else to tune the ecu and turn off all the unnecessary stuff I don't need to have.

I would let someone else do it in a minute if the cost was more reasonable, but people must think cause we have an LS engine we are rich or something...

I would much rather just spend $500 for the HP tuners software one time and be able to tune it as much as I want to, no questions asked....

I have taken the first step and gone ahead and bought an OBD2 port to be able to wire in. I will probably try to figure out how to secure it up behind the dash with the ECU so no one but me knows where it is once I have gotten everything up and running.

For anyone who knows, can the fan control temperatures be adjusted with this ecu?
I read where the ECU has relay ground controls for two fans, but I am wondering if it is for both at the same time or one, then another....

Unless the pcm is flashed for a fbody it does not have dual fan control capability even though it is the same pcm. It runs fans in series for low speed and then in parallel for high speed.

According to the pin out I found, each fan is controlled individually with a separate ground to control each relay. Now mine being a Yukon 4x4, it may not have it enabled, but that is my take on what I found. I am on my cell right now and can't get to the webpage cause I have it favorites on my laptop. But I will pm it to you in a little bit.

It seems to be hit or miss as to which operating systems for the 0411 actually will utilize dual fans. The pinout would be that same, but the os might not control the second fan.

OK. Trial and error can tell me whether it will or not. If not its just simply adding in a relay to control one or both...

I won't drive the vehicle until I have had it running for a while to check fluids, examine readings, and such stuff as that.

Let me ask this while I have this thread going... What all is required to wire in wideband O2 sensors so that HP Tuners software can datalog more accurately to aid in tuning the injection table? Is it primarily replacing the stock with wideband or is there additional wiring or power requirements?

Unless your WB is replacing a NB you only need to connect the WB analog 0-5V output to the inputs in the HPTuners box. I use EIO 1 with an LC-1.

The WB will have nothing to do with the PCM unless it takes the place of a NB.

You will have to buy the pro version if you want to wire it up like Exidous stated. With the non-pro version, you would have to use one of the pins on the pcm such as egr or a/c pressure to get the signal to your laptop for logging. There are plenty of writeups on here and Hptuners site for this.

I would replace the narrows simply to not have more wires running around. with the wb sensors connected to the ecu, it can manage the fuel map better, can't it? Be able to make adjustments based an real time data vs the on/off style of nb sensors?

Is this right or wrong?

Depends on if you want to run in open or closed loop. Closed loop with an OEM PCM requires narrow band O2s. OEM pcms don't exactly work like Big Stuff.

OK, leaving everything connected and plugged in, what all do I need to do to the harness to get it to power on? So I can get the guy to re-flash it to turn off all unnecessary crap?

I am talking simple as can be with all the extra's just pulled aside?

+12V Batt, +12V Ign, Grounds, Class 2 Data. All on the blue connector.

Plus the ALDL connector.

No. 99-02 pcms are interchangeable.

The Physical PCM is the same pinout and all. Various vehicles used different harness pins based one how the chassis is setup. Trans and such. You can take any 99-02 PCM and interchange any OS from those years. I use a 2001 GMC truck PCM on my camaro LS1.

Allright, thanks.

I now have to break out the scissors and razor blades to start with de-looming this mess and then remove all the unnecessary wiring. According to my count, 35 wires between the two plugs..
