MAF sensor...keep or remove screen? Debate.
OK, on my '02 Camaro LS1, I had a bigger (screenless) SLP MAF sensor, but after reading all the "bad" things about them, I'm removing it and putting the stock one back on. Also had a tuner tell me to just remove it (the SLP MAF). Haha! I have a SLP lid and smooth flow bellow, so, would removing the screen help or hurt? Everything I've read on it is about 50/50.

Thankfully the SLP did come with a GM sensor in it but without the honeycomb its no good. If you run a MAF, get a honeycomb in there. I bet you could just add the honeycomb to the SLP one and it will fix your issue with a little tuning
Search Paxon I think it was over on HP and you can get cell count and length custom to your preference

Sorry for the confusion. I'm removing the SLP MAF sensor and reinstalling the stock MAF sensor with the SLP lid and smooth flow bellow. My question is, should I remove the screen in the stock MAF sensor before installing?

you want to keep the screen IN... do not remove the screen...

So I decided to leave the screen in. Was installing my stock MAF sensor into the end of my SLP lid and crack! The lid split at the seam. I heated it up, lubed it and everything. Still broke. Fantastic.

Yup, but the principal is there. I wish people would call them what they really are then all this debate would cease. They are "Airflow Straighteners". They are not a screen, they are not meant to protect anything as calling them a screen would imply.* Although they obviously will protect your engine from large debris getting into your engine but really, that is what the air filter is for. People call them a 'honeycomb" because of the shape. OK, I get that, but it is still an Air Straightener that resembles a Honeycomb when viewed face on.

The old 75mm mafs give nice stable readings with or without the screen as long as you don't have a bend right in front of them. You will need to fatten the curve a few %, but it's easy to do if you have a tuning suite and a wideband.
If you're not willing to recalibrate it or pay someone else to do it then leave the screen alone. If you can do it yourself it's free HP. Reduces intake restriction by about 1kPa.
A descreened maf is still more stable than an SD tune, and only a minor restriction on a stockish motor.
