Default 12' SS tons of knock ??

I am attempting to tune a friends 12' Camaro but it is showing a lot of Knock retard before any tuning is even started. The car is an auto with a cold air and magnaflo cat back. I would believe this to be the case if it were August here in Texas but the air is 75 and dry. I never show KR in the 2000 camaros I usually tune. Any ideas of what to look for would be great. Thanks in advance.

Some owners are damn cheap and put 87 octane in their rides, if you ask they lie and tell they only use 91.
Let the tank empty and fill with new 91-93 octane and test again

Not uncommon for the newer cars to show knock. The factory knock settings are very aggressive.

My buddies Trail Blazer SS had a good bit stock. Some modifications to the intake to get cooler air and fattening up his air fuel a tad fixed things. His car liked low 12s in the air fuel for whatever reason.

Tuning a 2012 camaro is alot different than a 2000, can't even really compare the two. E38 ecm's are a fast ecm and also the knock sensor settings are pretty aggressive. There are also a few modifier tables that if are adjusted wrong can show up as knock.

Thanks for all the advice. I will fatten it up first and see where that takes us. He is a regular around my shop and I know for sure he runs 93 octane but gets it wherever. I have had some nad experiences with some of our more popular gas stations.
