Exclamation coolant sender/ sensor

Does the 98 camaro 3 wire sender/sensor need to be connected to the pcm in order for the gauge to work? Which wire is the one for the gauge and which ones go to the pcm? I'm having trouble with my coolant gauge not working, does anyone have a schematic on the wiring for the gauge and sender????

I think the sensor has to return to the pcm, and then the pcm sends out a signal...maybe to the bcm? I know the ls1b pcm has a direct out for tach signal, but I don't think it diss for ect

Ok that's what I was wondering if it had to go to another module then output to a gauge cause the vehicle its going into isnt the camaro and I wanted to use the stock gauge but in order to do so I need to find a sender that will plug into the Ls heads without buying an adapter. Knowing that the truck is a basic thermosister type which basically leads me to my next question. Does anyone know what sender will screw into the head that is a basic sender to a gauge?

What's controlling your radiator fan? The newer sensor on my LS3 has only two wires that go to the ECM. The ECM turns the radiator fan on and off. If I want a temp gauge, I either have to use a can-bus gauge OBDII gauge or install a second temp sensor on the other cylinder head. Same goes for oil pressure, unless you can find one that responds to the GM 0-5 volt output signal. Most old oil pressure sensors work on a variable resistance, with only one wire, that's a ground.

2 wires go to the pcm and the other wire goes to the gauge. I am using this setup on my 1992 chevy pickup swap and my 1992 gauge reads perfect and the pcm has the temp reading.

Finally! Thanks gagliano for the correct info!!! I purchased the sensor from AutoZone and now I'm waiting for the pigtail. So the green input wire from my 92 truck connects directyl to C on the sensor and the other 2 would go to the pcm like a newer model Ls engine sensor?

Pin A - BLK; low reference ground (blue ECM connector cavity #80)
Pin B - Yellow; ECT Signal to ECM (blue ECM connector cavity #74)
Pin C - GRN; Gauge signal

Thanks for the info everyone. Installed new sensor and my stock gauge works now!!!! I can finally get rid of the cheap sunpro gauge!! Quick tip though.....for someone else trying this sensor, don't go to the dealership to order a pigtail! Find a performance shop that either specializes or know what you're trying to do for the Ls engines!!! Price at dealer-$78 price at performance shop-$10
