Granatelli MAF question.

Granatelli MAF question. I bought a 2000 C5, it has a K&N intake and a Granatelli MAF. Doing a search on this MAF brings up a number of posts mainly of the "it's a piece of crap" type. These posts don't seem to explain why only make a blanket statement. Can anyone tell me what exactly is wrong with them?

Granatelli won't tell you the calibration so you have
a lot of work to do if you want accuracy. The pitch
back in the day was, the magical MAF would give
you better performance. But it does that by adding
an error that opposes the crappy GM factory PE
enrichment profile, lie about air and then hope the
upshot is the fueling you wanted. Sound like a solid
plan?
Then, when your MAF lies about airflow being lower
so as to get lean WOT, you are also lying to the
PCM routines that set A4 trans line pressure. Good
way to get familiar with the transmission aftermarket.
Voodoo may "work". But not necessarily in the way
you'd like, or only. You can get the flow from a Z06
MAF and have the benefit of a known calibration.

Ah, so that answers the question in my other post, why when I disable the MAF my trans shifts quicker.

stock MAF and tune or LS6 Maf and tune. My first nightmare tune was a car that had a Granatelli MAF on it. I chased issues with the MAF calibration for hours, it was a new MAF so I was reluctant to change it out. Finally put stock MAF back in and dialed it in with no issues. I was shocked and have been anti Granatelli ever since.
That MAF usually just changes the curve, not linier either. This way the load table changes and can add timing and lean the motor out at WOT. Some cars it works, most not. Most of the time you can tune it in correctly. No HP gain over a stock MAF when both are tuned in.
