lets not forget cold start.

at (less than freezing), 32F, 50F, 65F, 75F, 85F mornings. this includes in gear and out of gear perfect idling?

I doubt most cams would require much part throttle tuning- closed loop O2s take care of fueling. Idle would need more extensive tuning i.e. idle transitions.
I know NoGo spends alot of time on idle tuning and proper transitions...................but then he is the MAN.

Tuning for part throttle conditions is more important then doing simple WOT tuning.
The PCM was never designed to KEEP the AFR perfect, all it has to do is stay within 1 1/2 times the Federal Test Procedures so as long as the fuel trims are in that window then the PCM does not assure the fuel trims are perfect and it may not even be able to do so with the mods that were done using stock calibration values.

I tune each car on its own merits and layer tune for ALL engine conditions and each fuel trims state.

Having good WOT/PE values means nothing if the part throttle calibration stinks and causes more time to get to that WOT.

It is important to dial in the startup, idle, part throttle conditions, allow PCM to re-cal from those tuning changes and THEN tune the PE conditions so that an ill part throttle calibration does not have a negative effect in getting into PE

Chris Robinson spent more time tuning part throttle than WOT on my car. It drives good for a reasonably big cam, and throttle response is very crisp. I think he mostly tweaked part throttle timing.

I doubt many shops do unless specifically asked to do so. It's much more time consuming and labor intensive, to do it correctly.

It's alot easier to tune PE vs RPM @ WOT and call it a day and move the next customers car on to the dyno.

a tooner won't

a good tuner will on all cars.

WOT tuning is worthless if you don't have good drivability.

however, many people don't tune correctly in all conditions, ect. Thats the difference between a tooner and a tuner.

how long will it take for a tuner on a custom setup (ie not a very normal setup) take to tune drivability, wot, under both freezing and summer and everywhere in between?
first morning start, extreme temp(drag racing), etc?

Thats alot of hours, hence get a base tune for PE/WOT/idle and do the rest yourself.

a knowledgeable tuner will have files of vehicles for situations like that.

the people i know who do tuning have thousands of files to draw from. Unfortunately they are all ford files

any good tuner will do your idle , street tune, and wot tune for optimal results and the idle and strett are most important, wot is mainly just to verify the a/f and is done on the dyno usally
