Question

ok i know this page is old but i wanna know if it will tune my car with 02 LS6 heads and a Comp Cams Camshaft - 218 / 224 .527 / .534 114 LSA with the Vinci Tuner...or should i just stick to the 216 / 220 .525 / .532 114 LSA. the reason i ask this cause the programmer has 4 diff cam tuning right? and one is up to the 216 then the next is i think 224.....so would i be safe tuning the 218 cam with the programmer? The car won't get the LS6 heads and one of those cams for another year(hopefully sooner)....just need to know in the long run....thanx!

yes it can tune those cams as well. most likey you'll end up using cam #3 with some changes to suit he fuel/timing needs. http://www.stealthram.com/vhptuner.htm

personally, i would use the vinci 047 or 062 cam before the comp 216/220. look up posts from marc w on the truck section. he used to have the comp 216/220. then he moved to the vinci 047 and had better results.

IVe always had a question, Mrr, you always promote these things to everyone, yet, even on your webpage you say you pulled off the programmer and went back to stock programming and now you are faster on your timeslips page....

thanks for pointing that out. page has been updated. i'm now on cam #3 with the 4.10 gears.

also, back when i tuned the wife's car when i put heads on, i had the borla exhaust. after i installed the bassani tru-duals, it richened the car back up. i had to back out the fuel i added there also. now that i have the vinci 062 cam in, i'm at cam #3.

what this shows you is you don't always need tuning to get maximum results.

I've had the same experience as mrr23. As you add stuff, you must lean out with VHP tuner. I'm running the Boss II camshaft, Roger suggested cam selection #4 and go
-10% on timing. I have leaned it out -10% enrichment, may go to -15%. Will change again next month with the fast 90 and LG throttle body and post results.

Ok,my programer is on the way.I will be adding LG longtubes and a zo6 intake manifold to my 99 c5 auto 3:15 gears.I was assuming since adding more air in and out, would require more fuel too (power enrichment?)
What are some suggestions a/f and timing from you guy's that have had yours for a while. Thanks in advance.

well adding to the exhaust can richen it up. then you are adding more air. so, it might negate each other as far as what to add/take away. for example: when i had the borla on the wife's car, i had to add more fuel. when i put the bassani tru-duals on, i had to take it back out.

ok, mrr23
heres a scenario for you
the engine is a 365 ci lsx with ported heads and 9:1 scr
single 76mm turbo with a/a intercooler/looking to about 7-15+psi
victor manifold with elbow, 60#injectors
going in a 95 camaro with a t56
i can use which ever year f-body pcm with the harness i have for stand-alone
its a custom unit that allows you to use 98-02 f-body pcm
which pcm year model do you recommend?
also looking to use the 02 ZO6 cam or something similar with a wide LSA
More street/strip car daily driver with manual boost controller
really the only thing holding me back is the inexperience with laptop tuners
and i want something that i have some type of control over and use as a learning device
i do not want/wont pay somone to tune this car
if i cant get the pcm issue figured out i will resort to carb.blow-thru
i can tune the the hell out of a double/pump or demon, but this would be a last resort
any info or advice suggestions?
do you think i can tune this engine with the vinci tuner?
thanx
sorry for the long post

Makes sense, since it's always humid here,i think i'll shot for a 12:1 a/f ratio and add timing at WOT.Guess i'll just have to mostly rely on my scanning results and some trial and error.
Thanks

i wouldn't use it for your application. turbo is the major deciding issue there. none of the programs are designed around a turbo. you could try the supercharger with perf cam. honestly, you'd need a full on editing software.

ive had the vhp for about a year now and love it, the only issue i have with it is when i got to performance shifting. the tranny seems to slip about 200 rpm before shifts during normal driving, when i disable it it goes back to normal, also the car shifts low, before i had the superchips program and when i raised shift points it would shift whereever i wanted, then i changed my gears from 3.23 to 3.73 and the superchips did not compensate for it, it shifted really low like at 5400 from 1-2, with the vhp it seems to dhift around 5750 or so but not where it used to. dont know why it dont shift where its supposed to, stock it always shfted around 6150 or so. also i do not get a code for having no cats but do for the air system, so can i have a programmer delete it and reset my shift points and still use the vhp
