Default Need to edit vss

I have a 2001 ls6 in a c4 corvette.

I need to change the signal of the VSS from the c5 rear diff to the VSS of the transmission.

I have an elm brand obd2 connector. Is there a program that I can get reasonably to change the one parameter?

I don't want to pay for a complete reflash if that is all I need to change.

My speedometer and ECM think I am going a hell of a lot faster than I am.

There is nothing that I know that will allow you to do that. The only options I know of are to buy tuning software or pay someone with tuning software to do it. Has the the pcm already been programmed for the swap? There are alot of parameters that need to be changed for a swap for it run 100% correctly like it did in factory car. Our mail order tunes start at $200 but if you just want the VSS changed and thats it we can do it just that for cheaper.

I've seen speedometer calibrators that would probably do it...but now thinking of getting a new tune...probably with local shop with dyno. Kind of worn out shipping computer.

First tune had VSS off...due to gears used in c5 vs c4 VSS location. I sent back, but then the 4l60e stopped working. Would shift in manual but not by computer. Then he said my ECM might be bad and sold me a second one...when it came in the trans is shifting, but the computer thinks I'm going 165 mph and limits the engine.. When I'm under 45mph!

All in all I paid 5 shipping charges...and I'd rather take it to someone I can put my hands around.


Now that being said...you could earn major karma if you had any advice for me. Can you see a reason the transmission wouldn't shift? Do you think it was a bad ECM, or do you think he just screwed up the flash?

A speedometer calibrator will not fix it if the VSS is set as a corvette and you need it set like a normal vehicle. The speedometer calibrators I have seen (only a couple since I just use software) just allow you to adjust for tire size and gear ratio and not change anything else. I could be wrong and there is one out there but knowing what has to be changed I dont think one will work in your application.

Without seeing the tune in the pcm anyone would just be guessing why it didnt shift. In order for it to shift it has to meet a certain TPS, RPM, and MPH, if your speedo is that far off then your MPH is going to affect shifting for sure.

I can understand your frustration with mail order with your past experience, if you dont get it fixed locally give us a chance. We tune a lot of swaps in person a year not counting ones through mail order. We do tuning for several different shops who build old cars with ls swaps is how we get to tune so many swaps.
