Clarification on what Power Balance test values correlate with After reading some threads they seem to die without the answers I want. We know the HP Tuners power balance test shuts each injector off for 2 seconds and reads the RPM drop, but what exactly is the RPM percentage calculating? It obviously does not add up to 100% and thus isn't a relationship to direct RPM, so what's up with these values?
For example a 4 cyl engine may read 101%, 105%, 99%, 101%
We know its an imprecise test and shows a problem with only large differences, but curious minds need to know!

It's used to test the strength of each cylinder. If there is no drop when one is shut off that cylinder is not firing. If there is a small drop the cylinder is weak. If there is a big drop the cylinder is fine. Obviously this is very general. The HPTuners just adds values to how much of a drop there was. You should be looking for large differences just like a leak down or compression test. Take their precision with a grain of salt.

Ok I figured it out! Before the test begins cutting cylinders it takes a sample RPM. The percentages all relate back to the sample rpm. So if you sample 1,000rpm and the test cuts a cylinder and the rpm comes back at 1,050 it will show 105%. Seemed odd that you could cut a cyl and have it go UP, but I think it may relate to getting an insufficient beginning sample.
