Default IAT and speed density question

I got a harness from psi conversions but it didn't have a plug for a IAT sensor. I'm doing a speed density tune I have a 2 bar map. Do u need the IAT to tune correctly? This is a 5.3l with a BW s475 and a th400 trans.

Yes. So it doesn't have a MAF plug then either? Some of the MAF's have the IAT internal. If it isn't there, then it needs to be added. The IAT helps determine the timing.

For speed density, you need the IAT and MAP. It calculates air density from the pressure and temp.

It has a maf plug. But I'm not running a maf. Can I make a IAT plug from the maf?

two of the pins on the maf work for the iat. they are usually the correct pins so you can just pop them out and plug them into a new connector

Thanks. I'll have to figure that out then.

Or just plug it in. Get a Casper wiring harness that takes MAF/IAT plugs to one MAF plug (5-pin). Then either don't plug the MAF in on the other end to the wiring harness, or plug it in but tune it out. I think it's about $20 for the harness. But it's nicely made.

I can't seem to find that on caspers website. Do you have any more info on it?

Call TSP. I can't find it either. But they included it with the 100mm MAF kit and it's shown in the dropdown menu as an option - so they have it for sale:

If you're handy with a Metri-Pak crimper, you can modify the harness by isolating the IAT from the MAF connector with its own connector.

Sorry to revive an old post but I figured this would be the best place to ask since I'm in the same situation. I also have a PSI harness and am wanting to go speed density on my 5.3 turbo build. I'm lost on what to do with the wiring for the maf sensor and do I need to convert it to an IAT sensor or can I just leave it unplugged? Also, will the computer not let it run if its not getting the info from the maf or is that part tuned out when I switch to SD? When the car is done I will be taking it to get tuned so it will not be done by me as this is my first go around. Any info is appreciated!

yes you will need to find the IAT sense and ground wires and tie them into a relocated sensor...most people including myself put the IAT in the intake.

you will need to adjust the IAT calibration in the tune file to match your new sensor.

without the MAF you will need to disable the MAF in the tune usually by zeroing out the values in the MAF fail hertz under engine diagnostics.

My wiring harness I got from them only has a MAF sensor pigtail, no IAT. I was doing some reading earlier today about it and it seems that two of the MAF sensor wires work for an IAT sensor so I should be able to re-pin them in the connector that goes into the ECM for IAT instead of MAF. Does this sound correct?

What PCM? Search for a pin-out on this forum and you should be able to isolate the 2 wires for IAT. From there, it's just a matter of hooking up the sensor to said wires.

make sure you fail the MAF with error first reported in the tune to make sure it actually goes SD.
