Default N00b quick question. 98 PCM to 98 pcm

Hey fellas,

Quick question, my PCM failed (dreaded P0601) when I buy a used replacement from the same 98 T/A style can I plug and play, or do I still need it flashed to my VIN to avoid VATS trouble? I'd hate to try and turn it over just to experience problems after the fact...

Thanks for the help in advance!

What I've done is a "write entire" using the operating system from the original ECM onto the replacement ECM.

I'm not opposed to towing it down to have it flashed by the dealer. I'm just wondering if it's absolutely neccasary. Like will this thing start and run with no drivability issues if I just plug and crank?

Since F-body pcm's use PWM Vats signal, the VIN would not be an issue with the Vats, since it does not look at the VIN

Don't do a write entire to a 98 PCM with a different OS. You may brick it.
Just change the VIN to match your car and tune it using the same file you read from it.

Sorry, I am seriously a n00b when it comes to this... I think the safest route is to tow it to the dealer to have them re-program it to my VIN #.

I was just curious to know if I could hook this up and drive it to them to have it programed to avoid the tow bill.
