Default High AFR 15.9 at idle. Thoughts?

I have an 02 TA with a built motor and I just hooked up my wideband to an AFR gauge for the first time and my AFR is 15.9 at idle.

Isn't this high?

My motor is 430LSX with AFR 225 heads, fast 102 etc

Did you talk to your tuner? A lot of tuners have it setup to run lean outside of WOT in order to get better fuel mileage.

As long you have safe WOT numbers, and transient numbers, i wouldn't worry about it at all.

Also make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks upstream of that sensor. That could also cause the lean reading you are showing.

Lean idle is okay. I peg the wideband and narrowbands with large cam idle.

Hell even middle of the road cams idle better lean.

better than too rich.

I found if you push the decimal point out on the VE table out to like 2-3 places you can get it dialed in really nice.

my turbo truck idles at 13.8 until it reaches 120*F and then creeps up to 15.5 at 160+

Mine idles around 16:1.
Helps with the gas smell when you're 4" open downpipe is at the bottom of the fender and fumes come right into the window when its rolled down.

The OLSD table in the tune adds fuel until you warm up. At least it should. Cold car needs more fuel to run (as well as airflow). As it warms up it needs less of both.

Can this be done in a closed loop maf tune in anyway, or will it screw the ltft up because it thinks/or adds fuel to the idle cells?

Yes. Set your O2 switch points lower in the idle airflow modes. 450 is stoich. Try 300, then 250, etc. it will stay closed loop and not try to trim higher
