Issues Cruising stalled ls1/4l80e

Default Issues Cruising stalled ls1/4l80e

I'm having issues when cruising around when going over 35-40 mph the transmission acts like it's in neutral. The only way to get the trans to "engage" again is to mash the pedal. It's really annoying I haven't wanted to drive it too far because of the issue. Any suggestions?

Setup-
-94 S10, 8.8 rear. Caltracs, DRs.
-LS1 Intake, ls6 intake mani, LT headers, no cats mated to a 4l80e
-Circle D 4,200 stall
-PCM of NC 4l60 to 4l80 Conversion Harness http://www.pcmofnc.com/product/pcm-o...rsion-harness/
-Base transmission tune from PCM of NC and I maxed out misfire tables myself(researched the issue and this was the fix)
-added a 4l60e harness

Located in Central NJ, so if anyone local can help that would be cool!

You might look at your auto tcc normal table and lower the mph that it locks up. Your converter lockup is engaging at 43mph. Make sure and change the 4th unlock table about 2-3 mph lower than the lockup you select. I have mine setup to lock up at 45mph but I have a 2800 stall so it is not as noticeable as 4200 stall.
It also unlocks at 56% throttle again. You could extend this row on to keep it locked in 4th on the street. Don't know if this will work, but give it a try. Be sure and save your original tune first.

Thank you for the suggestion. I went ahead and copied someone else's tune values and was hoping for the best and it's still doing the same thing at 45mph.

I noticed when playing back my log that theTPS had no reading what so ever. Will have to take a look at that tomorrow.

The issue is the stall rpm is higher than the cruise rpm, at 35/40mph. Thus the sloppy response.

Since you have HP Tuners, put the rear up on jack stands and use the scanner to command each gear.
If that doesn't work you have a trans or wiring problem.
If it does work, then the tune needs to be examined more carefully.

Is this a brand new build? Did it ever work correctly?
When you say "acts like it is in neutral" does that mean if you give a little gas the engine revs and the car does not accelerate at all? If true that has nothing to do with TCC tuning. It appears the trans does not engage 4th gear.
If this turns out to be a trans problem, I will move this thread to the Automatic Transmission section.

The transmission is going into fourth, did the jackstand test as well some logs around town.

I got the transmission off Craigslist for cheap but it seems okay. I went from a t56 to this trans so this is the first time im using it.

The issue is the engine revs up but the truck doesnt accelerate. I can get it to accelerate again by mashing the fun pedal... Then at that point im way past the speed limit.

This truck wasn't built to be a daily but I want it to still drove normal through town. Hopefully that's still possible with the stall.

Should have noticed before - a 4200 stall is very high for street driving, feels even worse with a heavy vehicle and not well matched to a stock-ish cam.
You probably want something more in the 2800 stall range.

I'm sticking with the 4k stall. I would throw a cam in it but right now I'm unsure if I want to just spray it or go turbo.

Thinking further of this issue, is it possible that my trans doesn't stay in fourth because I do not have the tcc wired to my brakes?

Correction below are the correct specs on the converter.

Circle D 258mm Pro Series converter(10 1/4)
3B pump
B stator
3400-3600 stall

Thanks I'll try that later. The reason why i couldn't do the 4l80e segment swap is because it didnt match my serial number for my ecu.

Use the Bluecat trans tool. Input your stall speed, lowest RPM you want the converter to lock at, shift points, etc. Copy the resultant values into your tune. See if that helps.

You're welcome. Search for it on the HP Tuners forum. Here's a tip for that tool. If you highlight each field, it will tell you what that field does. It's pretty neat. I used it to get my trans shift points and stuff right in my G8.

Did you get the TPS issue resolved? The trans absolutely needs that input.

So I used the blue cat tool and the transmission is doing the same thing, coasting in fourth gear. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the transmission.
