Tech 2 re flash
Tech 2 re flash I have a tuner locked PCM on my 99 TA I was told that if I reflash it with a TECH 2 back to stock I can then retune the car without having to go through the process of unlocking it with the envious customs software that could take days. Any help is much appreciated thanks.
Either got to take it to a dealer and have it reflashed or a tuner who has the gm software to reflash it. Then hpt can read the stock tune and you can tune it from that point forwards
Tech 2 will not flash a tuner locked PCM. There are some vendors who can set it up with a bench harness and special software that will cycle through the 64xxx seed keys until it finds the one that unlocks it but that is the only option with a tuner locked PCM.
We dont use tech 2 at a dealerfor reflashing purposes we reflash the pcm in the car using the gm mdi module and tis 2 web software it overwrites everything starts at a blank slate. Tech 2 is no longer supported for programming
So you are saying the GM MDI does not require a valid seed key? I have a box full of tuner locked PCMs and can access a GM MDI. I will try it next week but even the principals on the HP Tuners forum say a tuner locked PCM can not be dealer flashed. And a Tech 2 can still be used with tis 2 web.

If its actually locked by efi or hpt, its locked. Even the dealer can not flash over it. In efi you can lock the ecm where it can't be read but can still be flashed, in that circumstance any one can overwrite it.

I tried to flash a couple of locked P1 PCMs with a GM MDI today. One was a 99 GMC 5.3L truck PCM that was tuner locked by Nelson Performance. The other one was a 99 TA PCM that had a HP Tuners MAF Enhanced COS so it was OS Mod locked. As expected neither one could be flashed back to stock with a GM MDI and errored while the program tried to establish communication with the PCMs.
Blowhards 01WS6/tamu and others in these threads stating things as untruths that have been discussed, proven, resolved, hashed and rehashed over and over again are very comical. MDI will not overwrite most locked modules.
EFI Live will not unlock an EFI Live locked module unless it's the original cable it was locked with. Even if you have the user created lock code used to lock it with. It still has to be the original cable to unlock the module.

I've had several people bring in vehicles that stated they were tuner locked and wanted them reflashed to stock gm programming. We hooked them up and they flashed no problem what locking method was used I have no idea.
I've had several vehicles come in to for updates related to service issues and mdi beeped gave a error and wouldn't flash when it tried to write gm techline said replace the pcm and that resolved the issue.
I'm not trying to spread a untruth just what I have ran across through the years. He asked a question I gave a answer to the best of my knowledge based off past experiences just like everyone else on here.

I have an MDI2 as well and it will not flash a tuner locked ECM. If its a COS if replace and reprogram is not used it will error out with not a GM calibration.
To the OP if you want me to unlock it for you PM m. Just cover the shipping both ways, it could take up to 6 days to get the key. Ill retain the tune and assign it a stock GM seed/key combo.
