Recommended ECM? I'm "Old School" and have just jumped into the LS1 pool for the first time. I'm building a iron block LS1 for my project truck. I want rock solid reliability, good power and economy. I used a new 5.3L GM block from Summit. I installed a new stock crank, Scat rods, Federal pistons and rings, a GM LS2 cam, 243 heads from my donor engine along with the EFI intake with electronic throttle. The engine has the 58 tooth reluctor and the 4x cam sprocket with front sensor. I will be using upgraded stock 1.7 rockers with new valve springs and ARP fasteners. I will couple the engine to a 4L60E transmission. I did not get an ECM with the engine so I will be starting from scratch. I plan on getting a new engine wiring harness. My question to everyone who has already been there and done that is: What ECM would you recommend for my setup that is reliable, basic and does not require a degree in "Rocket Science" to install and get running. I have used FAST Trans Controllers on previous builds and like their products. I have considered the GM Swap Systems that Summit lists; however, there may be better options. Thanks in advance!
Just use a GM E38 ECM and T42 TCM. If you get your harness from a Co. like PSI or Speartech they can supply the PCM/TCM with the harness purchase usually with things like VATS, DOD, and emission systems you won't be using already disabled. Have them flash it with a 07 or 08 truck 5.3L/4L65E calibration to start with since that will most closely match the engine/trans you are using. That will get it up and running.Then you will need something like HP Tuners or pay someone that tunes OEM to further dial it in. You will find more tuning support for OEM controllers than any aftermarket solution.
