PCM swap questions (VATS? VIN?)

I bought a 1998 ls1/t56 out of a Camaro. It did not come with a PCM. I looked at options to buy a 1998 PCM, but they are a bit harder to find. I read about swapping over to 1999+ PCM, but I have a few questions.
Besides resin the connector, what do I need to do? VATS? Program 1998 VIN into 1999 PCM?
Will there be any security features giving me a hard time? Etc
Also, please educate me on the AIR and EGR systems on the 1998 motor as far as the 1999+ PCM cares. I want to buy block off plates for these systems and I am not sure if the 1999+ will throw codes
Thank you for reading

No, I am not putting it in a Camaro. I am putting it into a 2000 BMW 323i.
Despite the LSx swap being so common, I can't seem to find much info about what all I need to do to make sure it works in a different chassis.
Funny enough, I strongly considered the 99+ PCM swap. The seller actually lost the PCM without realizing it, so I got home and realized I didn't have one. Buying a 99+ PCM and re-pinning my harness seemed like the perfect solution.
99+ PCMs seem very easy to buy - 10s of sellers on eBay have them ready and waiting to ship for $80, but the issue is they all want your VIN number to reprogram it. I guess I would give them the VIN on the motor, but they would know that's a 1998 VIN.
What now?
