Used E38 ecm
I just got a used E38 ecm for my 6.0 VVT and need to program it to a Express van vin so I can run the 4l80 behind it. It currently reads a 6 cyl in a Pontiac G6. My question is do I need to waste credits on the current vin in the ecm just to flash it to another vin?

I am running a seperate tcm for the trans"t42 i believe". I just need the e38 to control the 6.0 with VVT.

You need to first verify the service number and calibration currently flashed to the E38 (just to be sure it wasn't changed).
When the OS ID is verified then you need to buy a T42 TCM of the same year of the E38 OS.
Then you need to flash both of them to a 6.0 VVT with 4L80E calibration so they will work correctly. New calibration need to be of the same year or it may brick/corrupt the ECM/TCM. You need TIS to do this
After they are flashed with the correct OS, then tune it. Change the VIN to match the vehicle as a last step because not all tuning software allows to enter any VIN you want
