crank relearn

crank relearn I got a chevy silverado 2002 4.3 liter engine
It had excesive play in the timming chain so I replaced the chain . all good but still does not complete the crank relearn . vehicle parked,engine coolant in the proper temperature and when im trying to raise the rpm between those specified numbers around 4k or 5k scanner keeps getting a reading of almost 8k and 9k rpm .. I had tried step by step guided by the scan tool and still no progress . Any of you guys have ever encountered this situation before ? what could it be ?
Also when checking the ckp connector for an electrical issue I got 3 pins , 2 of them are good just like the scan tool says but in the 3rd pin just putting the tester tip into it starts making a weird noise inside the distributor ! thanks again!!
