e38/gen 4 gurus school me up
so I'm getting asked more and more to look at e38 (and e67/e78/e92) swapped vehicles. I've had limited success with getting them to run right. For the last one I just put it on the MAF and it seems pretty good.
But, that's not gonna work for boosted applications.
How the hell does Virtual VE work?
How can I make an e38 run on straight SD?
What is Virtual Torque and what does changing it affect?
I have a guy with a C7 corvette who just wants some firmer shifts at part throttle now that he's got a stall in it.
Took a look at his shift tables and there's literally 50 tables!
any direction to a good tutorial for these later ECM's would be appreciated. They're starting to hit the wrecking yards so I oughta get into the learning curve.

The virtual ve is definately a different breed. Ive never had good luck with it on the gen4 aps. I remember when blue cat had the first tool to tune it. Hptuners now has the tools integrated into the software.
I have always just used maf only and they seem to run pretty good. I havnt tuned a boosted gen4 yet either. Interested in what others have to say.

We see more E38/T42 swaps than E38/6L80's mainly due to the size of the 6L80. E38 swaps are a differnt aninal to tune when you get into mix matches engine trans combo's. Everything needs to match also, TB, gas pedal, and OS in the tune along with the vin in ecm/tcm or you will have all kinds of headaches, new DI E92 swaps are even more challenging.

My tbss has a e38 ecu, not sure on which tcu. i swapped a 4l80e in it 2 yrs ago and it works great! I used a pcm of nc conversion harness and changed some things in the tune. I dont even think im using the front vss sensor as well.
I usually run 6l80e in the swap platforms with the e38. They are a big trans so they can be hard to fit some swaps. They are definately tricky to tune. Alot of tables compared to the older stuff. They are also funny about making mph match the rpm for the correct wot shift points. I hate to tuning them.

Launching!
If only there was some sort of training DVD that covered virtual VE.
To be fair, we made this a while ago when EFILive was the only tool that could natively calculate the VE coefficients. HPTuners now has a tool built in as well, so we may go back and create a new video using that tool, but in the menatime, the process is basically the same with either toolset.

This;
And this are very helpful;

Ive done a few LS2 GTO's in SD. I have looked at the new tool in HPT but I have yet to use it lol. Its harder to tune the 6l80 than the VVE. There are so many tables (most dont do anything) and there are very few reputable sources giving up the ghost on what to actually change. Ive got mine doing pretty good now but its still a work in progress

Haha, I watched your vid on the 6l80 tuning subeone/cesar. Very helpful, but Ive used the bluecat trans thing on a few of my cars now and it just never seems to get it right for the shift. I go straight off a gear calculator app instead (and for all customer cars).

thanks cesar! I appreciate you making that.
I you really highlighted what I think the problem I've been having is.... shitty injector data from the snake eater 150's everybody is buying
it makes the estimated TQ values so far off from reality the transmission is impossible to tune (im using the blue cat tool)
