Default 1 Controller FI & Carb?

I have a drag race only LS1. It's totally complete with all the factory harnesses, computers and chingaderes. We're thinking of trying to run it with the factory FI but if that doesn't work out we'll just put a carb on it. I know there are after market controllers to run both the FI system as well as ignition controllers to run ignition in carburetor set ups. Can one controller do both? In other words, can we buy a controller to run the factory FI and then if we change our mind can that same controller run the carb set up? If so, which controller do you recommend?

Thanks in advance.

Any FI controller can run a carb setup. It would merely take care of ignition in the absence of FI. On a totally different note, I always wondered about running small injectors in addition to a carb. This would allow blocking the carbs idle fueling for fine tuning with the injectors, then allow the benefits of a huge carb without the idle tuning drawbacks of oversized injectors. The small injectors could be used to fine tune the fueling on the fly with a computer, rather than changing jets and airbleeds in the carb. The needless complexity could in theory allow a smooth idle, perfect A/F across the board, and huge HP numbers to coexist.

Go with injection and never look back.
The Holley Dominator system is great, Not only does it control fuel and ignition but it also controls just about anything you can think up. Trans brake/ multi-stage nitrous/ Boost Control/ Fans/ Electric water pump and so on. If you get the display you can monitor anything you have connected and it will do virtual toggle switches. Writing what all it's capable of would take hours lol.
And if you desire it will control everything but fuel with a carb.

It’s probably above my skill level but that’s an amazing idea and makes sense.

Awesome - That's what I was looking for, thanks. On a side note, I'm an old fart and this is a really big new trick. Do you have to be a software engineer to learn to understand and program the computer side of all this?
Thanks

Not at all, You can download the Holley software and mess around with it to see if it's something you want to attempt. If you know how to use a computer then the rest is no different than tuning a carb and ignition but instead of changing jets or twisting the distributor you are doing it with a keyboard and mouse.
The Holley system doesn't self tune exactly, You still have to set timing throughout the rpm range and set target fuel ratio, Once you start the engine and run it at varying rpms and load the system will adjust the fuel side of the tune based on the built in wideband.
It's a really well thought out system and they do software updates once or twice a year and they are free.
It's not cheap but to me it's well worth the cost for everything it's capable of doing.
