Torqhead PCM base LT1 tune question
I'm buying a ‘97 Trans Am WS6 with the LT1. I want to ditch the Opti spark system and go with the Torqhead PCM (LS1 PCM) and harness, but use the EFI Connection signal kit.
My question is with regards to drive ability from the moment you turn the key? I live about 60 miles from any of the reputable tuners, and I’m concerned about getting the car there without towing.
is the base LT1 tune Torqhead installs good enough to get by with for a short duration? Also, if anyone has done one of these installs and has installed a CC-306 cam (or similar) and you have an “HP tuners” file for just a cam install, and would be willing to share or possibly sell that to me to get this show rolling, I’d appreciate the help immensely!
I have no tuning experience whatsoever, and I know the experienced tuners can handle this easily. The car has the stock LT1 factory intake and injectors, factory exhaust(for now) and all emissions equipment ( not necessary) and it has a T56 Trans, stock gearing. It has the stock 17” wheels. Eventually I plan to build a 383 for it, but for now, just upgrade to a lumpy cam.
thanks!

I just converted a 97 Z28 with all the torque head equipment and the start up tune is ok for your 60 mile commute, the idle tables are off for cold start your speedo wont be right more than likely but for just swapping the opti, plugging in the 0411 and turning the key I was really surprised how well it went. The car will have the LS1 timing tables so it will be down on power a bit but pretty much everything else should be okay with the supplied tune. I picked up a HP tuner pro to learn and to be able to apply tunes that are available for download but mostly once you poke around the software and read a couple of tutorials you would be able to adjust basic things yourself. I ended up building a tune for the stock 97 LT1 that has about 30 HP over stock now with the cold air and headers it has, deleted a.i.r, rear o2`s,skip shift,Vats and a few items to clean up the dash board. To put your tune into the PCM you will need some sort of software to write to it, I`d share my tune with you no problem if you want.

thanks for getting back to me! I’d really appreciate it if you could send me a copy of that tune you have, I’d feel a little better about driving to a tuners shop.
Thanks!
