Default Car went dead

Battery was a little weak so I jumped it with annother car. Drove it around the block a few times with no problems. Went to pull into the driveway and it just died. Hit the key and nothing, no lights , no clicking, nothing. checked all the fuses, all good. anybody????

Your alternator must be bad. Your car will run for a short time using the battery power until it gone. Old rule of thumb: you can remove a battery terminal from a run motor and it will not die, but if he alternator is bad motor will stall out.

Had the battery tested it was showing 12.8 volts, but they said it had a bad cell. why wouldn't the lights, horn, ect, nothing would work at all.

Thats the funny part, the battery was not dead. I'm thinking there is a bad cable somewhere. Gonna check them tomorrow and get a new battery.

A bad cell can intermittently cause a battery to be dead. I think your bad cell went from bad to worst.

It was a 3 year old interstate battery that i keep on a 1 amp trickle charge. Bought a new battery from Farm & Fleet and everything is back to normal. Thanks for all the advice fellas.

I was just adding to what G Atsma had said and when you lose everything like that it's due to a faulty connection somewhere. I've seen it happen with my truck which turned out to be a loose connection at the battery terminal.

Oh yeah I've heard its not a good idea to test an alternator like that in today's cars due to the fact the system needs the alternator and battery to be in good working order.

Troubleshooting electrical for 35 years, I've seen many times systems have plenty of voltage but failed due to not enough amps.
