Default P0650 and dead instrument cluster

Hey all,

driving today and all of a sudden my instrument cluster just totally turned itself off. No speedometer, temperature, etc. Radio and climate and windows and everything else works. Headlights worked and the instrument cluster lights up, but none of the gauges or indicators work.

Car drive fine that way until I got to the office and parked. I immediately tried to fire up the car again and got nothing. No attempt at starting at all. Battery is fine, and all accessories work (radio, fuel pump, windows, ac, etc). None of the instrument cluster lights or gauges work.

When o try to turn it over, the radio redstarts every time, so something is working, but no engagement from the starter at all.

I tried jumping it just in case but no joy.

Any ideas? I’m going to have to tow it if there isn’t an easy way to get it running tomorrow.

thanks!

Im not an expert by any means .. but maybe you have a bad ground somewhere...that's where I would start. Also, I would check the harnesses on the PCM. I had a loose one the other day and it caused all sorts of issues. Doubtful but worth a look..

I took a look at the PCM, but not sure where I’d have a loose connection? The big grey blocks all seemed to be inserted fully. Where was yours actually loose?

Any heads up on where to look for grounds?

Yes, the "blocks" are actually the harnesses and I had one of the 7mm bolts loosen up and it was causing lots of havoc. As for the grounds there has to be a write up on here for tracking them all down. I've thankfully never had to. Try googling something like "bad grounds ls1tech" and maybe you'll find something.

Turns out it’s a dead fuse, but they are searching out what is causing the fuse to continuously pop.

crazy thing is that I checked what I thought were all the relevant fuses and didn’t see any issues.

hoping they find the culprit soon.

Still working on this! The tech has isolated and installed fuses on all 5 of the leads that come off of the fuse that is blowing, but now that he's done that, none of those fuses are blowing......so frustrating and expensive at $90/hr for troubleshooting......
